Justin Mitchell is a research associate for defense and foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute, where his research interests include Central Asia, diplomacy, Eurasia, geopolitics, Russia, and U.S. defense and national security policy.
He holds a B.A. in history, international relations, and Russian language, literature, and culture from Syracuse University, and an M.A. in international relations from the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs. From the fall of 2023 to the spring of 2024, he studied at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
