Yana Zabanova is a Research Associate at the Research Institute for Sustainability – GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany. Her areas of expertise include the geopolitics and geoeconomics of the net-zero transition and its impact on Central Asia and the European Union, as well as EU energy and climate policy. She is about to complete her PhD at the University of Groningen (Netherlands), where she focuses on clean energy development in Eurasian hydrocarbon-rich states, comparing the cases of Russia and Kazakhstan.
