About

Dr. Aziza Baubekova is a Central Asian environmental engineer, foresight facilitator, and expert on environmental change in the Caspian Sea region. She is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering at the University of Oulu, Finland. Her research focuses on integrated water governance, the Water–Energy–Food–Environment (WEFE) nexus, and climate resilience, with particular attention to environmental change and resource management in the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia. Her work combines systems modeling, geospatial analysis, and participatory foresight with stakeholder engagement to address complex challenges such as transboundary water management, ecosystem degradation, and sustainable water use under changing climatic conditions. She contributes to international research initiatives examining hydrological change, environmental policy, and socio-ecological systems across Central Asia, the Caspian basin, and Northern Europe. Originally from Kazakhstan, she holds degrees from the University of Nottingham, the University of Manchester and Central European University, and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Oulu.
