My research focuses on the long-term social and demographic consequences of war and violence. What is the legacy of war for migration? For reproductive health? For educating girls? What is the nature of the causal relationship between violence and migration? Does nonwartime violence drive migration, too? My work examines these questions in cross-national perspective, as well as with case studies in Tajikistan and Russia.
