My research interests include regime transition, ethnic politics, Islam, and gender in post-Soviet Central Asian states. I am currently focused on how constructed gender stereotypes in Kyrgyzstan affect women's personal and public lives. I therefore work on the political economy of polygynous marriages, women's participation in politics, and the effect of gender quotas on women's political representation.
