Kazakhstan Futures Fellows Meet in Astana to Discuss Economic Challenges

Between April 18 and 19, 2024 , Kazakhstan Futures fellows met in Astana to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Kazakhstan’s economy over the coming decades. The event began with opening remarks from our keynote speaker Yerlik Karazhan, Director – ESGQ Rating Agency, who opened with a powerful discussion on the need for clear climate benchmarks and professionalization of forecasting to tackle the challenges facing Kazakhstan.

Our eight fellows then embarked on a day broken into four policy discussions sessions focusing on trade and connectivity, human capital development, FDI, and decarbonization. Our fellows presented their policy solutions to some of these challenges and we compiled the results together into a final report with policy recommendations. We concluded our day with a final networking dinner where our fellows could discuss their future collaborative projects.

On April 19, our fellows travelled to Zarenda to speak with representatives of the UNDP climate resilience program and met with Kazakh government ministers and climate tech entrepreneurs to discuss their policy ideas.

Check out the videos of our fellows reflecting on their experiences on our YouTube Channel.

The Kazakhstan Futures Program is supported by the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, Public Affairs Section.
