 Description:

At present, none of the Central Asian republics has formulated a special security strategy with regard to economic stability. Relevant provisions on national economic security are scattered in the national security law or the national security concept and other documents. From the perspective of law and policy textual content, energy security, water safety, and natural resources are common concerns for the economic security of the region. The security focus of each republic nevertheless varies. Uzbekistan pays more attention to economic independence; food security draws attention from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan; and Kyrgyzstan considers economic and financial crises to be the highest priority for mitigation. The processes of liberalization and development of political models across the region are impacted by the issue of economic security. At the same time, regional economic security problems also restrict and affect trade relations in the region. The interdependence of regional economic security and development is an important driving factor for Central Asian countries to put aside historical grievances, strengthen coordination and communication, and enhance cooperation.
