 Description:

“Xiaoerjin Research (3 volumes)” is three volumes, “Xiaoerjin Research – History, Writing and Documents” is the first volume. Xiaoerjin is a type of Chinese spelling in Persian/Arabic characters used by some ethnic minorities who believe in Islam in the central and western regions of our country, especially the lower-class Hui people. It is the crystallization of the exchange between Chinese culture and Islamic culture. With the development of society, this kind of writing has become a cultural heritage of ethnic minorities on the verge of extinction. The first part of this book focuses on the history of Huihui language and philology, from the introduction and research status of Xiaoerjin, the origin of Huihui culture and the history of language literature, the localization process of Huihui people, the use of Persian before the emergence of Xiaoerjin, the background and conditions of Xiaoerjin’s creation , historical lexicon compilation and other aspects have been comprehensively discussed, and an innovative interpretation of Xiaoerjin has been carried out from the perspective of ideograms. In order to explain the background and compilation of the etymology of the second and third parts, the first part also introduces the collection of materials, the style of dictionaries and other specific issues. This book is an important achievement of the author Liu Yingsheng’s long-term, comprehensive and systematic research on Xiaoerjin characters, and it is a masterpiece of domestic research in this field. “Xiaoerjin Research – Etymology” is a concise Xiaoerjin-Chinese-Persian/Arabic etymology research. It mainly collects and organizes various words compiled by the author collected by the Hui nationality folk scriptures and education in the northwest, sorted by Xiaoerjin alphabet. Each entry contains several basic elements: the original character of Xiaoerjin, corresponding Chinese characters, Arabic/Persian, English translation, vocabulary source, and some of them also include some secondary elements. The writing not only reflects the relationship between Xiaoer Jin and the corresponding Chinese characters, but also reflects the content of Islamic culture accepted when Xiaoer Jin is used to annotate Persian/Arabic classics in the education of the scriptures.
