 Description:

The changes brought about by the Russian-Georgian conflict in international relations make the Shanghai Cooperation Organization face an extremely complex international and regional environment. In addition to the intensification of the confrontation between Russia and the United States, the conflict posed a serious challenge to the development of the SCO. The foreign policy of Russia, the policy toward the former Soviet Union (especially the Central Asia region) and its policy attitude toward the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, will have a profound impact on the SCO’s overall development. Under the new situation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization should make breakthroughs in regional economic cooperation and make some achievements in regional security (such as the situation in Afghanistan), so as to maintaint organization’s vitality.
