This book focuses on the urban development of Central Kazakhstan, especially Karaganda, during the period after World War II, when the area went through a rapid transformation. It adopts a regional approach to the study of the history of everyday life. It places emphasis on infrastructure development, including sewage systems, roads and buildings.
